The Hull Farm
Natural Cocoa Bean Mulch
Welcome to The Hull Farm of Lake Geneva
The Hull Farm of Lake Geneva is a family-owned and operated business located in Lake Geneva, WI.
For nearly 40 years we have partnered with the top producer of chocolate morsels to collect their roasted cocoa bean hulls and repurpose them into our Natural Cocoa Bean Mulch.
What are the benefits of Cocoa Bean Mulch?
Deep brown color resembles soil and will not bleach out.
Reduces water loss and helps in water retention.
Natural plant insulator: helps plants stay warm on chilly days and cool on hot ones.
Brings in good critters: earthworms help to aerate soil and release nutrients; working as natural fertilizers.
100% Natural Material: slow, natural decomposition adds nutrients like phosphorous and nitrogen to the soil and naturally suppresses weed growth as it binds from decay.
N-P-K ratio of 2.5-1-3
What is Cocoa Bean Mulch?
Converting the discarded cocoa bean shell after roasting in the chocolate making process was originally introduced as an environmentally friendly repurposing of an otherwise discarded, natural material.
Over time, Cocoa Bean Mulch was found to add, rather than draw, nutrients to the soil. With its nutritional composition, "treating" your flower beds and gardens to the delightful smell and eye-catching look of Cocoa Bean Mulch also promotes more favorable soil health and vitality; producing healthier plants and higher yielding gardens.
Green OR Black thumb, using Cocoa Bean Mulch in your flower beds and gardens will add beauty and growth conditions that will make your neighbors green with envy :)
How do I use Cocoa Bean Mulch?
Spread by hand or rake. Ideally, the mulch material should be evenly spread 2" thick on top of the soil surface.
Lightly pack down the mulch material.
Water the mulch thoroughly. This helps to activate the natural gumming and moisture retention properties.
Maintenance: Replenishing, or adding small amounts of mulch, to existing mulch from time-to-time may be needed, as this is a naturally decaying, 100% natural product.
